If you are familiar with Mcjimsey or Kitchener you probably know this is what you call an essence. While many are skilled in essence reading, easily identifying common traits that pertain to each essence, there still seems to be a bit of mystery about what exactly makes a person angelic or ethereal; many resort to stating it’s a feeling or a vibe. But I was determined to get to the bottom of what exactly made these people so angelic.

How The Nexus Ethereal Essence Scale was developed
I developed this system after delving into the question myself of how to accurately identify and measure ethereal essence. I began noticing consistent patterns in how ethereal essence manifests in individuals of specific body types. territory that has yet to be fully examined or expanded upon. My knowledge of the essences, as well as the Kibbe body typing system, provided the foundation. From there, I drew inspiration from various systems, exploring their intersections and recurring themes. This exploration ultimately led to the establishment of the Nexus Ethereal Essence.
The Nexus ethereal essence scale moves from the most yin expression of ethereal essence to the most yang, you may find that this is opposite of most typing systems. Typically, they will start with the most yang form gradually leading to the most yin form and then it ends . On scale ethereal is considered the most yin so where the Nexus ethereal essence begins is
a yin so extreme that it’s kind of an over-dramatization of yin , almost dramatic in nature (wink wink ) . I believe like everything else in naturthere is no definite end and no definite beginning but a cycle. I believe
ethereal essence is like the bridge leading yin back to yang . That being said the most yang form of ethereal is also the closest to Dramatics. Which is why dramatics tend to have a slight touch of ethereal in their essence. And that is why I believe ethereal essence is just so captivating because its base is the contrast and combination of yin and yang. Another key thing to keep in mind is that this isn’t a typing system—it’s an essence system.Ethereal, or Angelic, is just one essence within the spectrum. Even if someone has Ethereal essence strong enough to be their dominant, it’s almost always blended with others. And from what ive observed people with high ethereal essence can carry a mix of our newly found Ethereal types. To account for those differences, as I go through each category, I’ll be showing collages of people. That way, you can really see the essence in action and notice the repeating patterns that define it.
Starting with the most yin form of ethereal essence, we have
Oceanic
which, naturally, plays on the element of water. There’s just something about this facial structure that gives a fluid, hypnotic vibe.Wide-set eyes that instantly pull focus, paired with a low nasal bridge between the eyes. That low bridge softens and opens the center of the face, creating a gaze that feels magnetic and almost impossible to ignore.
A key note is that i noticed many oceanics will have a spoon like indention around the eyes between the nose bridge. This is important to note because other essences even with wide eyes may have a different symmetry around the eyes. You may notice that often but not always oceanic beauties will have a round face; they don’t have a very chiseled or angular jawline or very high cheekbones but a smooth youthful-like round cheeks. That being said, when you do notice an oceanic with sharper features there may be other essences at play.
This water essence is so strong that people with Oceanic beauty are often—without even trying—linked to imagery of mermaids, sirens, ornaquatic life. In animation, these same features are frequently correlated with fish or sea creatures. And in real life, you can see it clearly in someone like Sade—between her voice and her facial structure, she radiates ethereal energy. And the industry noticed too: posing as a mermaid in “No Ordinary Love” and even releasing a song called “Mermaid.”
So when Halle Bailey landed the role of The Little Mermaid, I wasn’t shocked at all.
Casting directors may not use the word “essence,” but they instinctively typecast actors into roles that match it. Once you start noticing this pattern, you can’t unsee it.
Our next ethereal essence is
Ether
A step closer to Yang, with its element being space. Since it’s only one step away from Oceanic, you’ll still notice some similarities. For example, wide-set eyes often remain a key feature. But now the face starts to shift: it’s more defined, more structured, and aligned with yang attributes. Where Oceanic pulls you outward with fluidity, Ether pulls you downward. Their facial symmetry naturally guides the eye down the face.
Many have almond-shaped faces—rounded at the top, often filling out the first third of the face breaking with captivating eyes before tapering into a sharper, more pointed chin. The wide eyes still dominate as a focal point, even more so because the face tapers right after giving the illusion that the eyes are the widest feature on the face.The nose becomes longer and more defined, which continues that downward flow and adds to the sleek, spatial feel of this essence. It’s the kind of beauty that feels like it’s stretching toward infinity—clear, striking, and impossible to miss.
Moving down the scale, we land on
Feline
with its element being fire. Unlike Oceanic or Ether, feline beauty doesn’t lean toward round or long faces. Instead, you’ll usually see more compact faces such as heart square, or inverted triangle holding definition, and very often, those signature high cheekbones. Another key marker is a wide nose bridge—when paired with the eyes, it can create a subtle V-shape betweenthe eyes and nose that instantly reads “catlike.”
While most feline beauties have almond-shaped eyes, there are always exceptions—but the essence still comes through. Think of it this way: if the classic Feline is the full-grown cat, the softer or more ingénue version looks more like a cub—still unmistakably feline, just with a youthful spin.
What really defines this essence is the symmetry and flow of the face. If you notice when women undergo the cat eye surgery they will usually pull out to achieve that feline effect. .The felines features will naturally move in this direction . outward and upward, giving a lifted, fierce quality that perfectly aligns with their element of fire. If you notice in a way they make your eyes pull towards their ears but with a gaze so strong your eyes rest on theirs , an v like nose bridge. It’s beauty that looks sleek, untamed, and always a little dangerous—in the best way.
Continuing down the scale, we move into
Avian
Whose element is air. Since it’s right next to feline you will notice many similarities. The Facialshapes tend to be more compact but this time think circles, hearts, or even diamond-shaped faces. The chin is always defined—not necessarily sharpor pointy, but structured with clear angles, whether that ends in a triangular taper or a more blunt cut.
Like their feline counterparts, avian beauties usually carry high cheekbones that keep the face lifted. What’s unique about Avian is the eye movement. On these faces, the flow moves inward—from the outer edges of the face toward the center—almost making the nose the natural focal point where your eyes want to rest. While there isn’t one set “Avian eye shape” a common detail is a slightly puffy outline around the eyes, which gives them a rounder or more circularlook—even when the base shape is almond giving them this bird-like look.
And of course, there are always exceptions. Remember: these markers aren’t hard rules, but key patterns that show up again and again whenidentifying ethereal beauties. Avian essence in particular has thatb lifted-yet-centered quality—airy, sharp, and direct.
As we step further into yang territory, we arrive at the
Mystics
whose element is earth. Their most common facial shape is oblong—so ovals and rectangles show up often. At first glance, this might remind you of Ether, but there’s a key difference: Mystic faces don’t taper in at the eyes, and the eyes themselves aren’t the main focal point. Mystics can have larger foreheads, though it isn’t always a defining trait. What really stands out is how their features fill out the length of the face, so even with the extended proportions, there’s balance.
If you notice an Ethers widest part of the face is often at the eyes , you will notice an Mystics widest part is the cheekbones often parallel to their nose but notice, Their cheekbones aren’t as prominent or protruding as Felines or Avians, but the cheekbones will be defined but smooth. It’s the cheeksthat are sharply defined, which creates an upward pull and gives the face that “snatched” look.
Like Avians, the nose often becomes the focal point, but the effect is different. Instead of pulling your gaze downward, the Mystic nose works almost in reverse: it anchors the center and then seems to spread your attention outward across the rest of the face. This creates a strong, grounding presence—the essence of earth itself.
It’s no surprise, then, that people with Mystic essence are often typecast as sages, witches, or wise figures in the media. Their faces naturally read as knowledgeable, steady, and a little mysterious—like they carry hidden insight. After our Mystics, we arrive at
Apeironic
whose element is time. This essence is particularly interesting because it’s less about their appearance and more about a concept. At first glance, they may not seem to carry as much an obvious ethereal quality or obvious essence—but there’s still something about them that draws you in. That “something” is what I call their weightlessness.
They aren’t bound to earthly categorization. heavily perceived by their balance of yin and yang. They seem to be at extremes with each other. A clear yin element and a clear yang element paired together. You’ll often see this essence expressed in contradictions. Dramatics with high yin features , or Romantics with high yang Women may carry masculine facial features and Men may have feminine features . small facial features compared to the face or large features compared to face. Older people may appear strikingly youthful, while the young can seem to hold an ageless or mature quality well beyond their years. Perhaps even yin attributes paired with yang and vice versa.
It’s this paradoxical mix that makes them hard to define, yet impossible to ignore. As a final ethereal essence we have
Neoform
The most yang form of ethereal essence, with its element being metal. What makes Neoform so fascinating is the appearance of perfection. A type of beauty where you see them in real life and you can’t help but to stare. The symmetry is so precise it can feel almost uncanny, like you’re looking at something designed by AI rather than nature. Beautiful, yes—but with an edge of coldness, as if the face is more sculpted than lived-in. Neoform features are defined by sleek, angular structure. High cheekbones,
but never soft or puffy—always sharp, bony, A strong, sculpted chin. And above all, an undeniable facial symmetry that pushes them into that almost surreal, “too perfect” territory. It’s no coincidence that in mainstream media, Neoform faces are often cast in roles tied to dystopian futures, hyper-intelligence, or post-human worlds. Their beauty naturally aligns with themes of technology, advancement, and thequestion of what lies beyond human.
